Women's Lax Flies Past Dutchmen

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's lacrosse team earned its first win of the 2015 season Sunday afternoon with an 8-7 non-league win over Lebanon Valley.

The Hornets (1-1) scored seven of the game's first 10 goals and then withstood a furious Lebanon Valley (0-2) rally.

Trailing 8-4 following a Miranda Rudacille goal with 22:32 to play, LVC scored three goals in the final 10:55 to cut the deficit to just one.

Emma Jones scored the final Dutchmen goal, tallying unassisted with 1:38 to play to give themselves a chance to tie.

LVC won the ensuing draw and had a shot that went wide; Shenandoah gained possession and then successfully cleared the ball to effectively seal the victory.

Awarded a free position with six seconds remaining, SU elected to not shoot and held the ball until the final horn.

Freshmen Cortney Gensemer and Annie McCorry, along with senior Liz Bereit, all had two goals to lead the Shenandoah offense.

Rachel Levy had 10 saves, including six in the second half, to backstop the defense.

Rudacille's goal at 22:32 proved to the game-winner.

SU outshot the Dutchmen 24-20 while the two teams split 36 groundballs.

The Hornets take to the road on Tuesday for a non-league game at Frostburg State.
