Men's Lax Stops Curry

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's lacrosse team used a strong defensive effort to key a 9-2 non-league victory over Curry College Wednesday afternoon.

Shenandoah (4-2) held Curry (2-1) without a goal over the final 32:13 of the contest in securing the win in the first-ever meeting between the two schools.

After John McMenomey scored off a Brandon Flaim assist with 2:13 in the second, the Hornets, led by 21-save performance from sophomore goalkeeper Ben Judy, pulled away from the Colonels.

SU, on the strength of two Stephen LaTona goals and another from Connor Bishop, led 3-2 at the break.

Sophomore Tilghman Sanders gave the hosts some breathing room with the only goal of the third, scoring at 12:14, before the Hornets used a five-spot in the fourth to coast home to the win.

Aaron Paul scored twice and LaTona, Sanders and Bishop one time each in the final stanza to provide the final margin of victory.

On the defensive end, SU forced Curry into 24 turnovers and if the Colonels were able to get off shots, Judy was there for the save.

The sophomore had 11 of his 21 stops in the second half, including six in the fourth quarter.

CC outshot the Hornets 35-29, owned a 36-31 advantage in groundballs and won 10 of 15 faceoffs.

Shenandoah continues this homestand on Saturday with its ODAC opener at 4 p.m. against Hampden-Sydney.
