WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting Hampden-Sydney dominated possession in a 19-7 ODAC men's lacrosse victory over Shenandoah Saturday afternoon.
Hampden-Sydney (3-3, 1-0 ODAC) won 19 of the game's 20 faceoffs in the first 45 minutes of the contest to help take a commanding 13-goal lead over the Hornets (4-3, 0-1).
With the game tied at 1-1 following a Kyle Savage goal for the hosts at the 7:41 mark of the first, H-SC scored the game's next 14 goals to take total control over SU.
Sophomore Stephen LaTona finally broke the scoreless streak for the Hornets when he converted a Jack Greaney feed with 2:52 remaining in the third.
LaTona's goal, his 15th of the season, would also start a run in which Shenandoah scored six of the game's final 10 goals.
LaTona and Aaron Paul each had two goals during this run with Savage and Casey Edsall scoring the other two.
The Tigers, who had 18 men register at least one point in the game, were led by attackman James Hughes' three goals and two assists for five points.
Hughes scored three of his team's first four goals.
H-SC outshot SU 51-27, had a 51-19 advantage in groundballs and won 25 of 30 faceoffs.
Hornets goalkeeper Ben Judy made 12 of his 18 stops in the middle 30 minutes of the game.
Shenandoah takes to the road on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. non-league contest at Marymount.
