Saints Outlast Men's Lax

ARLINGTON, Va. - Host Marymount University used a strong start to key a 16-12 non-league men's lacrosse victory over Shenandoah Wednesday evening.

Sophomore Stephen LaTona had a co-game-high six goals for SU (4-4) but it was not enough as Marymount (3-4) made an 8-4 halftime lead hold up.

Trailing 13-8 after the Saints scored the final two goals of the third, including the second with 1:39 to play, Shenandoah ripped off a three-goal run to start the fourth and cut the deficit to just two, 13-11, with 10:36 remaining.

Unfortunately for the Hornet faithful, Marymount answered with goals at 8:33 and 7:01 to expand its lead back to four goals and secure the victory.

The two teams traded the final two goals of the contest, with Connor Bishop scoring for SU, to provide the final margin.

MU outshot the Hornets 47-21, had a 50-17 advantage in groundballs and won 23 of 32 faceoffs.

Shenandoah goalkeeper Ben Judy had seven of the game's nine saves.

In addition to LaTona's eight points on six goals and two assists, Aaron Paul had three goals and one assist and Bishop two goals.

SU hosts Guilford on Saturday at 4:00 in an ODAC contest.
