McDaniel Tops Women's Lax

WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting McDaniel College used a big run midway through the first half on its way to a 16-9 non-league women's lacrosse victory over Shenandoah Saturday afternoon.

Shenandoah (5-3) scored the first three goals of the game, but could only watch as McDaniel (6-2) answered with a nine-goal run.

The Green Terror first got on the board with a Samantha Barbeito to Danielle Entrot tally at 20:17, and tallied the game's next eight goals over a span of 12:05 to take a lead they would not relinquish.

Senior Liz Bereit, who had four goals for the hosts, finally snapped the string with a free position goal for the Hornets at 4:44.

The free position tally was one of three Bereit had on the day.

McDaniel then erased any thought of an SU comeback by scoring three of the initial four goals of the second half.

Freshman Cortney Gensemer had the lone Hornets goal during this run with an unassisted tally at 28:54.

The two teams split the final six goals of the game, with Emily Kogler, Sabina Rasoulov and Bereit scoring for Shenandoah, to provide the final margin.

McDaniel outshot SU 34-16, scooped up 24 of the game's 43 groundballs and had a 16-11 advantage in draw controls.

Hornets goalkeeper Rachel Levy had eight saves.

Shenandoah is back in action on Tuesday with a 6 p.m. non-league game against Ferrum.
