Women's Lax Tops Quakers

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's lacrosse team reached a double-digit win total for the fifth straight season thanks to a 10-8 ODAC victory over Guilford Saturday afternoon.

Shenandoah (10-3, 6-1 ODAC) saw the Quakers (6-7, 2-5) take a three-goal lead in the first and a one-goal lead midway though the second, but rallied each time.

Trailing 4-1 after Carter MacLeod scored for the visitors at the 13:17 mark of the first, SU reeled off four of the final five goals of the first to knot the game at 5-5 by the break.

Annie McCorry and Miranda Rudacille both had a goal and an assist during this run.

Freshman Cortney Gensemer's second goal of the game, at 24:40 of the second, gave the hosts its first lead at 6-5.

GC answered with goals at 23:34 and 14:54 to retake the lead only to see Shenandoah rally once again.

Senior Liz Bereit, one of three SU seniors honored prior to the game, brought the game back to level by finishing off a Rudacille assist at 13:57.

Her goal, one of three she had on the day, started a 4-0 Shenandoah run that put the game out of reach.

Rudacille put the Hornets on top to stay at 9:29 before Bereit's unassisted goal at 7:31 proved to be the game-winner.

Senior Juli Carbone, on a free position shot, closed out the hosts' scoring.

Demming Carlow had the final goal of the contest, scoring unassisted for the Quakers at 4:07.

GC outshot SU 25-23 and won 13 of 20 draw controls.

Shenandoah had a 26-18 advantage in groundballs.

Rachel Levy had eight saves in the winning effort, including three in the final five minutes.

The Hornets travel to Bridgewater on Wednesday night for a 7 p.m. ODAC contest.
