WINCHESTER, Va. - Randolph-Macon earned its third ODAC men's lacrosse victory of the season Wednesday night with a 9-8 overtime victory over host Shenandoah.
Kyle Keepers scored his sixth goal of the game for Macon (6-9, 3-4 ODAC) with just nine seconds remaining in the first OT to give the 'Jackets the win over Shenandoah (4-9, 0-6).
The Hornets had a pair of excellent chances in the preceding minute, missing high on a pair of shots before Aaron Paul was stripped of the ball as he attempted to dodge toward the R-MC goal.
Macon immediately cleared the ball and set up a play for Keepers, who took a Tyee Buttrey feed and ripped a point blank shot past SU goalkeeper Ben Judy.
Judy, who had 17 saves on the evening, had no chance on the off-stickside shot.
Keepers' sudden victory goal ended a comeback bid for the Hornets in which the hosts erased a three-goal deficit in a span of 4:58.
Trailing 8-5 after Coleman Adams scored off of a Sam Mayer assist, SU scored at 6:19, 6:07 and 1:21 to knot the game at 8.
The tying goal came in a clearing situation against a 10-man ride - Kyle Shea threw a 60-yard pass to Connor Bishop on one bounce and Bishop deposited a 12-yard shot into a open goal to bring the contest back to level.
Shenandoah had the last possession of regulation, but Macon keeper Thomas Smith was able to turn aside Paul's shot just before time expired.
R-MC outshot SU 46-37 and had a 37-33 advantage in groundballs. SU scooped up 22 of 33 groundballs in the second half to climb back into the contest.
Macon won 15 of 20 faceoffs.
The Hornets travel to Randolph for a 1 p.m. ODAC contest Saturday afternoon.
