WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting Mary Washington pulled away late in a 2-0 non-conference women's soccer victory over Shenandoah Tuesday evening.
The Eagles (1-0) scored two goals in a span of just less than five minutes midway through the second half to dispatch the Hornets (0-1).
SU keeper Erin Septer was outstanding, making three saves, but UMW made the most of its five shots on the night.
Lauren Brower had the game-winner, scoring in the 57th minute, before Leah Roth added an insurance goal at 61:15.
Shenandoah took 13 of the game's 18 shots with Jennifer Nguyen posting a game-high four.
Mary Washington held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.
SU is on the road this weekend, playing Ursinus and host Rowan in the Profs Soccer Classic.
