WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's volleyball team opened its 2015 season Tuesday night with a 3-0 sweep over Hood College.
The Hornets (1-0) won at 16, 20 and 15 over the Blazers (0-1).
SU led throughout the opening set but needed a rally in the second to complete the sweep.
Trailing 17-15, the Hornets scored seven of the next eight points of the set to lead 22-18.
Hood was able to cut the deficit to three, 23-20, before Jasmine Callahan closed it out with a pair of service aces.
The final set was over virtually before it started as SU jumped out a 10-2 lead before cruising home to the 10-point win.
Elizabeth Lamont, Rachel Roberts and Allie Pieper all had seven kills for the victors with Danyelle McGrady adding five.
Callahan had a match-high 14 assists.
Shenandoah is back in action this weekend at the Averett University Tournament.
