WINCHESTER, Va. – Visiting Frostburg State sandwiched a pair of goals around halftime Friday evening to key a 2-1 non-league women's soccer victory over Shenandoah.
The Bobcats (3-2) scored 17 seconds prior to halftime and just more than three minutes into the second half to provide all of the offense they would need over Shenandoah (0-5).
The Hornets answered back nine minutes into the second half as sophomore Anna Wilson drove home a rebound of a Rebecca Collimore shot. Collimore drilled her left-footed shot off the post, where it caromed directly to Wilson just inside the 18-yard box.
Wilson then drove her shot into an empty net.
SU had two significant scoring chances in the final 30 minutes, but was unable to bring the game back to level.
The Hornets outshot FSU 17-13, including 10-6 in the initial 45 minutes.
The two goalkeepers, Paige Gray and Erin Septer, each made five saves.
Shenandoah took all four of the game's corner kicks.
Leah Yurko and Danielle Ferris had the Bobcats goals.
"We had some great individual efforts tonight," Hornets head coach Liz Pike said. "We have two more opportunities to improve before we open ODAC play with Virginia Wesleyan."
SU returns to the pitch on Monday for a 4:30 non-league contest at Hood.
