FREDERICK, Md. - The Shenandoah University women's soccer team earned its first victory of the 2015 season Monday afternoon with a 5-0 non-league shutout over Hood College.
Junior Alysha McCleaf had a goal and three assists for the Hornets (1-5) in the dominating victory over Hood (2-3).
McCleaf scored off of a Danielle Burris assist just 8:30 in to give SU all of the offense it would need and then set up the squad's next three tallies.
Rebecca Collimore had the next two goals, scoring at 9:43 and 12:50, before McCleaf registered her third assist of the contest by serving a ball into the center of the box that Elizabeth Bellido headed home ay 22:29.
Senior Danielle Burris, who set up McCleaf's opening goal, tallied unassisted in the 79th minute to provide the final margin of victory.
Junior Erin Septer had to make just two saves in registering her seventh career shutout.
Shenandoah outshot the Blazers 21-3 and took all six of the game's corner kicks.
"We played very intelligently today," SU coach Liz Pike said. "We took advantage of our scoring opportunities and took the lead. We are going to continue to work on making the simple plays work for us moving forward."
The Hornets are back in action on Thursday in a non-league contest at Wesley.
