WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University field hockey team opened its 2015 ODAC slate Saturday afternoon with a 5-1 victory over Virginia Wesleyan.
The Hornets (3-4, 1-0 ODAC) scored two goals in a 90-second span early in the contest to provide all of the offense they would need against VWC (1-7, 0-1).
Freshman Kayla Alderman tallied off of an Elizabeth Pardo assist at 6:17 before Katelyn Curtis scored unassisted at 7:47.
Shenandoah continued to pour it on over the Marlins, scoring at 18:42, 29:06 and 33:08 to take a commanding 5-0 lead.
Virginia Wesleyan scored its lone goal with 48 seconds to play in the first half.
The two teams played a scoreless final 35 minutes.
Morgan Payne, Kelani Bailey and Tori Finney had the victors remaining goals.
SU outshot VWC 22-3 and had an 8-7 advantage in penalty corners.
Jessica Brown made one save in earning her second straight win.
The women take to the road on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. non-league contest at Ferrum.
