Volleyball Drops A Pair

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University volleyball team played a pair of competitive matches, but came out on the short end of a pair of contests Saturday afternoon.

In the opening match, visiting Virginia Wesleyan was victorious 3-1 in an ODAC contest before the Hornets fell 3-2 to Marymount in the final match of the day.

VWC (12-6, 4-0 ODAC) defeated Marymount (12-5) 3-0 in the middle match.

The Marlins began the afternoon by winning at 20 in the opening set before Shenandoah (7-7, 2-2) answered back with a 25-23 victory in the second.

VWC then clinched the win with a 25-13 victory in the third and 30-28 in the fourth.

Junior Anna Gallup paced SU with 12 kills while Blake Parkes added eight.

Jasmine Callahan and Rachel Cerretani had 25 and 16 assists, respectively.

Brandi Griffith had 25 digs and Parkes 18 to lead the defense.

The non-league contest between SU and Marymount went back and forth, with the Saints winning 26-24 in the first and Shenandoah 25-22 in the second.

The two teams split the third and fourth sets, MU winning 25-20 in the third and the Hornets 25-19 in the fourth.

That set up a winner-take-all fifth, with Marymount leading throughout in a 15-10 win.

Caylin Harris had a co-match-high 16 kills with Kaitlyn Kelley adding 10 and Allie Pieper nine.

Callahan and Cerretani again ran the offense with a combined 39 assists. Callahan had 20 of this total.

Parkes had 18 digs, Griffith 16 and Cerretani 12 to lead the defensive effort.

Shenandoah travels to Goucher on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. non-league match.
