Women Sting 'Jackets

ASHLAND, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's soccer team earned its first ODAC victory of the season Wednesday night with a 3-0 win over Randolph-Macon.

The Hornets (4-6, 1-1 ODAC) scored what proved to be the game-winner in the 30th minute as freshman Dornesha Cottoms banged home a rebound of an Averi Rosena shot.

SU then put it away against the Yellow Jackets (4-5, 1-3) with two goals in the first 6:16 of the second half.

Kelsie Luddington tallied at 46:06 before Rebecca Collimore sealed the win with her goal at 51:16.

Jennifer Nguyen assisted on both of the second half goals.

Shenandoah outshot the 'Jackets 20-6 and took both of the game's corner kicks.

Hornets keeper Erin Septer made five saves in posting the shutout.

The shutout, the fourth this season for Septer, gives her 10 for her career.

"It was a great win for us," SU coach Liz Pike said. "We came to play and physically dominated the game.

"We hope for a speedy recovery for their injured player."

In the first half, following a shot on goal, a Randolph-Macon player suffered a lower leg injury. The game was delayed by approximately 25 minutes as medical personnel attended to her.

The women take to the road this weekend for a 4:30 ODAC contest at Roanoke Saturday afternoon.
