WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University volleyball team rallied for a 3-2 non-league victory over Penn St. - Altoona Tuesday evening at Shingleton Gymnasium.
After taking the first set 25-22, SU (5-1) saw the Lions (1-4) roar back to take the lead by winning sets two and three 25-20 and 26-24, respectively.
The Hornets forced a decisive fifth set by winning 25-15 in the fourth and clinched the match with a 15-12 victory in the fifth.
Down 11-10 in the fifth, Rachel Roberts knotted it at 11-11 with a kill off of a Rachel Cerretani assist before Cerretani set up Blake Parkes for another kill that gave SU the lead for good.
Elizabeth Lamont's kill put the hosts within two points of the win, and after PSU-A cut it to 13-12 with a kill of its own, Roberts and Kaitlyn Kelley had back-to-back kills to close out the match.
Lamont had a team-high 13 kills with Allie Pieper adding 12 and Roberts 10.
Cerretani and Jasmine Callahan had 24 and 23 assists, respectively.
Libero Brandi Griffith, who served the final point of the match, posted a match-high 32 digs with Cerretani chipping in 16 and Lamont 11.
Coach Jaime Terenzi's club travels to Messiah College on Saturday for a 10 a.m. tri-match with the host Falcons along with Washington College.
