Macon Pulls Away from Men

WINCHESTER, Va. – Visiting Randolph-Macon pulled away for a 79-68 ODAC men's basketball victory over Shenandoah Wednesday evening.

Shenandoah (3-11, 0-5 ODAC) led 14-12 following a Malcolm Clark 3-pointer with 13:21 to play in the first, but could only watch as Macon (7-7, 3-2) scored 15 of the game's next 18 points to lead 27-17 by the 6:37 mark.

The two teams then split the remaining 18 points of the stanza to send the Yellow Jackets into the halftime locker room with a 36-26 lead.

Macon erased any thoughts of a Shenandoah comeback by scoring 13 of the initial 17 points of the second and had 49-30 by the time the half was five minutes old.

The lead remained in double digits, rising to 19 points on two occasions, before SU ripped off a 14-4 run to cut the deficit to nine, 60-60, with 2:36 remaining.

Unfortunately for the Hornets, Macon scored the next seven points of the game in just 61 seconds and coasted home to the 11-point win.

Clark had 20 points, Gabriel Gonzalez 14 and Aaron Patterson 10 for the hosts.

Lamont Moore led all scorers with 27 points for the victors.

R-MC shot 58 percent for the game, including a sizzling 60 percent in the first half, while Shenandoah shot 36 percent.

Macon had 43 of the game's 69 rebounds.

Shenandoah travels to Greensboro on Saturday to take on Guilford in a 2 p.m. ODAC contest.
