Guilford Tops Men

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Host Guilford College had an outstanding afternoon from behind the arc on its way to an 81-69 ODAC men's basketball victory over Shenandoah Saturday afternoon.

The league-leading Quakers (10-5, 5-1 ODAC) drained eight 3-pointers on their way to the win over Shenandoah (3-12, 0-6).

GC hit three of those 3-pointers in the first half to help it take a 40-29 lead into the break.

Senior Antwan Pittman and junior Malcolm Clark, who each came off the bench Saturday, combined for all of the Hornets first half points. Clark had 15 and Pittman 14.

Clark, who finished with 30 points, opened the second half scoring with a 3-pointer of his own at 19:33.

Unfortunately for SU, Guilford scored 17 of the game's next 24 points over a span of of 6:33 to take a 57-39 lead with 12:57 to play.

The Quakers kept the lead in double digits until Shenandoah posted an 8-2 run to cut the deficit to 69-61 with 5:22 remaining. Will Freeman answered with a layup for GC at 3:57 and coasted home to the 12-point victory.

In addition to Clark's 32, Pittman had 20 and Aaron Patterson six for SU. The Hornets shot 41 percent to 54 percent for GC. Guilford had 41 of the game's 67 rebounds.

Trever Hyatt had 20 for the hosts. He was 5 for 7 from outside the 3-point line. 

Shenandoah continues this road trip on Wednesday with a 7 p.m. ODAC contest at Washington and Lee.
