Eagles Win on Buzzer Beater

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah men's basketball squad lost in a heartbreaking fashion Wednesday night as Bridgewater hit a buzzer-beating 3-pointer in a 58-55 ODAC win before 452 Shingleton Gymnasium fans.

With less than a second remaining in regulation, Bridgewater's Kevin Saylor drained a three-pointer to silence the Hornets' faithful and steal the three-point win. The Eagles have now won seven-straight meetings against Shenandoah.

Shawn Postiglione's squad set the tempo early. The Eagles climbed out to a confident 12-0 lead and looked to be in complete control.

But Rob Pryor's group wasn't fazed. The Hornets cut the deficit to just six at the 11:26 mark in the first period. Shenandoah kept chipping away and a critical free throw by Antwan Pittman evened the contest at 22-22 with 3:22 remaining in the first half.

The two squads traded baskets until Aaron Patterson sunk a huge 3-pointer with 12 seconds before halftime.

Shenandoah entered the half with a slim 27-26 edge.

The second period was a back-and-forth affair. Neither team led by more than five points for the entirety of the half. The two squads were tied five different times.

With 47 seconds remaining, the score was knotted at 55-55. Malcolm Clark drove to the basket but couldn't find the net.

With less than a second on the clock, Saylor slipped off a screen for a wide open look that proved to be the game winner.

Clark led Shenandoah with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Patterson and Pittman each added 11 on the night.

The Eagles were guided by Jesse Case with 22 points and five rebounds. Saylor added 18 points and four boards.

The Hornets next game will be on Saturday at Randolph.
