WINCHESTER, Va. – Visiting Virginia Wesleyan used a big second run on its way to an 89-78 ODAC men's basketball victory over Shenandoah Wednesday night.
With Shenandoah (3-9, 0-3 ODAC) leading 38-36 following a Malcolm Clark layup 41 seconds into the second half, VWC (8-4, 3-0) scored 13 of the game's next 15 points over the next 4:17 to take a lead it would not relinquish.
Clark, who finished with a game-high 36 points, scored six straight in just 39 seconds to cut the deficit to just three, 49-46, but SU would get no closer.
Virginia Wesleyan answered with another run, this one 9-0 over 2:26, to expand the lead to 12 points with 10:53 remaining.
Shenandoah would get no closer than six points the rest of the way.
Four straight Clark points got it to that six-point deficit with 4:40 remaining, but the Marlins hit consecutive 3-pointers to stretch the lead back to 12 points and coast home to the victory.
Khory Moore, who had seven 3-pointers among his 11 field goals, hit the first of those two consecutive 3's.
Moore finished with 31 points.
Nick Doyle had 19, Kaelin Poe 13 and Keijon Honore 10 for VWC.
E.J. Baltimore posted 13 points for the Hornets.
Virginia Wesleyan had a 39-34 edge on the glass and outscored SU 19-12 in second chance points.
Shenandoah is back in action Saturday at Hampden-Sydney in a 2 p.m. ODAC contest.
