Tigers Down Men's Hoops

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. – Host Hampden-Sydney used a big first half run to take a lead it would not relinquish in a 65-42 ODAC men's basketball victory over Shenandoah Saturday afternoon.

With the game tied at 5-5 following a Malcolm Clark 3-pointer for Shenandoah (3-10, 0-4 ODAC), Hampden-Sydney (10-3, 2-2) scored 13 of the game's next 16 points to seize control of the contest.

Antwan Pittman briefly halted the Tigers run with a 3-pointer of his own at 7:26, only to see H-SC outscore SU 10-3 over the next 4:21 to expand the lead out to 28-14 with 2:43 remainiHampden-Sydneyt.

Leading 32-20 at the break, Hampden-Sydney scored 17 of the initial 22 points of the second to push the lead north of 20 points for the first time in the contest.

Another Clark 3-pointer, this one at 16:41, cut the deficit to eight, but this would be as close as Shenandoah would come.

The Tigers next three buckets all came from behind the arc and the lead eventually reached 29 points before SU closed out the contest by scoring the game's final six points.

Clark led all scorers with 18 points and also tied for the game high in rebounds by pulling down seven.

H-SC had a 39-30 advantage on the glass and shot 46 percent to 31 percent for SU.

Shenandoah hosts Randolph-Macon Wednesday at 7.
