SALEM, Va. – Host Roanoke College had a big second quarter Wednesday evening in a 71-46 ODAC women's basketball victory over Shenandoah.
Leading 11-6 at the end of one, RC (6-5, 2-1 ODAC) scored 30 of the 40 second quarter points to pull away from Shenandoah (3-9, 0-3).
The Maroons shot a sizzling 58 percent (14 of 24) in the second to turn that five-point lead into a 41-16 halftime advantage.
The Hornets continued to battle following the break, matching Roanoke's 30 points in the final 20 minutes.
Cary Beahm, the current ODAC Player of the Week, had a game-high 22 points and 11 rebounds for the hosts with Ellen Wagner adding 12 points and Kelsey Smith and Bridget Holleran 11 each.
Shannon Kuhn and Kanesha Foster both had 16 points for Shenandoah with Foster and Kirstyn Arcata posting eight rebounds each.
SU had a 39-38 advantage on the glass while Roanoke outscored the Hornets 36-16 in the paint and taking 26 of the 36 points scored off of turnovers.
Shenandoah returns home on Saturday for a 2 p.m. ODAC contest against Randolph.
