Women Earn First ODAC Win

WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's basketball team earned its first ODAC victory of the season with a 79-71 victory over Randolph College Saturday afternoon.

Shenandoah (4-9, 1-3 ODAC) led for 35:53 in earning its 10th lifetime victory over Randolph (2-11, 0-4).

After the 'Cats took their first lead of the game on an Abigail Bullins 3-pointer at 9:40 of the second, SU ripped off a 10-0 run over the next 1:44 to put itself in front to stay.

Junior Olivia Callan, who led the Hornets with 20 points and a career-high 10 assists, bookended the run with buckets at 7:16 and 5:32. The first of those two baskets was a 3-pointer.

The second basket, a layup, gave the Hornets a 23-16 lead.

Randolph was able to cut the deficit to three points on two occasions before SU took a 32-27 lead into the halftime break.

A 15-4 Shenandoah run midway through the third quarter gave the hosts a 15-point, 53-38, lead with 1:03 left in the stanza.

Unfortunately for the Hornets, RC had an answer.

A 10-3 run that sandwiched the third quarter break brought the 'Cats to within six, 56-50, with 8:08 remaining.

A Shannon Kuhn layup followed by three SU points from the line briefly pushed the lead back to nine, only to see Randolph make another run.

This 6-0 run in just 32 seconds made it a 62-60 game with 5:35 left.

Kuhn quickly answered with a layup on the ensuing trip down the floor, which sparked a 10-1 run and allowed Shenandoah to coast home to the victory.

Randolph would get no closer than five points the rest of the way

In addition to Callan's 20 points, Kanesha Foster had 18 points, Kuhn 17 and Arcata 16.

Bullins had a game-high 23 for the 'Cats. Her final points, on a jumper with 1:06 left, allowed her to crack the 1000-point barrier.

Shenandoah is on the road Wednesday in a 7 p.m. ODAC contest at Washington & Lee.
