Pike Earns Victory No. 100

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Shenandoah University Head Women's Soccer Coach Liz Pike earned college head coaching victory No. 100 Saturday afternoon thanks to a 6-0 ODAC win at Guilford College.

Pike, who is now 100-81-15 in 10+ seasons as the Hornets head coach, saw her club dominate right from the start against Guilford (4-3, 1-1 ODAC).

Shenandoah (9-2, 3-0) scored four times in the initial 23:52 of the contest to take a commanding lead over the Quakers.

Sophomore Dornesha Cottoms gave SU all of the offense it would need in the 11th minute as she finished off a Jennifer Nguyen through pass.

Emily Yergin, the ODAC's leading scorer, set up Rebecca Collimore just less than five minutes later and the Hornets were in total control.

Yergin scored unassisted in the 22nd minute and then started a two-pass sequence that led to Kelsie Luddington's goal in the 24th.

Yergin started Luddington's goal by feeding the ball to Averi Rosena, who one-touched it to Luddington just inside the box.

Luddington also needed just one touch on the ball to drive it into the left corner from 15 yards out.

Yergin, who came into the game with 11 goals, added to her league leading total with two more in the second half. She scored in the 54th and 57th minutes thanks to assists from Alysha McCleaf and Alison Spaziani, respectively.

Erin Septer made two saves in 85:23 before turning it over the Charlotte Evans for the final 4:37. The shared shutout is the first of the season for the two women.

"It is always tough to play on the road and it is good to see the women continue to work hard," Pike said. "We had a stellar performance from (Alysha) McCleaf in the midfield and certainly (Emily) Yergin with three goals and two assists had a good day."

Shenandoah continues this road trip with a 6 p.m. ODAC contest at Randolph on Wednesday.
