Wesley Escapes with Win

WINCHESTER, Va. – Host Shenandoah University dominated possession, but it was Wesley that scored the game's lone goal in a 1-0 non-league field hockey match Tuesday afternoon on the Sprint Field at Shentel Stadium turf.

Shenandoah (7-6) took 19 of the game's 26 shots, including 10 of 13 in the second half only to see Wesley (4-11) knock in a Lauren Niezgoda goal in the 57th minute to escape with the victory.

Niezgoda knocked home a rebound of a Kelsey Fromal shot into an open net for the game's only goal.

Wolverines keeper Makenzie McIntyre made five saves, with her defense making two more, to give the visitors the victory.

SU goalkeeper Jessica Brown had four saves of her own.

The Hornets also held a 9-4 advantage in penalty corners.

Shenandoah continues this homestand on Thursday with a 5 p.m. non-league contest versus Frostburg State.
