ROANOKE, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's soccer team maintained its place atop the ODAC standings with an 11-0 victory at Hollins University Wednesday afternoon.
Shenandoah (12-4, 6-1 ODAC) needed just 61 seconds to net what proved to be the game-winning goal versus Hollins (2-15, 0-8) as Jennifer Nguyen tallied off of an Emily Yergin assist.
Freshman Sara Fuller had a natural trick with goals in the 20th, 22nd and 38th minutes. Yergin and Rebecca Collimore assisted on the second and third goals of this run, respectively.
Yergin, who entered the day fourth in the nation in scoring, scored in the 53rd minute before setting up Jordan Riser in the 56th.
The Hornets scored six goals in the final 10 minutes with Collimore scoring twice and Yergin once.
The 12 wins equals last season's win total and is tied for the second-best season in school history. SU can tie the all-time mark of 15 with victories in its final three regular season contests.
The 11 goals scored is tied with the Hollins contest on October 22, 2014 for the fifth-most in program history.
The Hornets had a program record 69 shots, including 39 in the second half, and did not allow Hollins one attempt on goalkeepers Erin Septer and Charlotte Evans.
SU also took all 15 of the game's corners.
"Not too much to say about this one," Hornets coach Liz Pike said. "We had a solid overall performance and I was happy to see freshmen Juliet Karnes, Taylor Blazis and Megan Shockey work hard and play smart.
"These type of opportunities help our freshmen in upcoming seasons."
Shenandoah returns home on Friday night for a 7:30 ODAC contest versus Sweet Briar.
