Roanoke Downs Hockey in OT

WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting Roanoke College scored six minutes into overtime to earn a 4-3 ODAC field hockey victory over Shenandoah Saturday evening.

Shelbi Holloman scored 6:05 into the sudden victory session to push Roanoke (10-5, 4-3 ODAC) past Shenandoah (8-8, 3-3).

Freshman Taylor Hayes opened the evening's scoring with an unassisted goal at 6:57 only to see the Maroons tally three straight to take a 3-1 lead by the time the game was 22 minutes old.

Hayes' classmate, Maddie Price, cut the Hornets deficit in half with an unassisted goal at 24:18.

RC maintained this one-goal lead until Hayes forced overtime by finishing off a Morgan Payne assist with 90 seconds to play. Payne inserted a penalty corner to set up Hayes with the goal.

Neither team had a shot in the remaining regulation time.

Roanoke took all three shots in the OT with Hornets goalkeeper Jenna Rampale stopping the first two. The game-winning goal came off a penalty corner.

RC outshot SU 16-15 with the Hornets holding a 9-8 advantage in penalty corners.

Shenandoah completes its home slate on Wednesday with a 4 p.m. ODAC contest versus Bridgewater.
