HARRISONBURG, Va. - The SU women's hoops team went neck-and-neck with EMU on Tuesday night, but exited Harrisonburg with a 75-58 loss.
The Hornets (6-16, 3-10 ODAC) began the contest with confidence and poise. At the end of the first period, the Royals (15-6-8-5) only owned a slim 19-18 edge.
But EMU would start to pick up steam in the second quarter. By halftime, the Royals boasted a 36-28 lead.
Just as they have been all season, the Hornets were resilient and refused to back down. Kirstyn Arcata, Erin French and Kanesha Foster all sunk baskets to open the third period and slimmed EMU's lead to just 38-34.
But this is where momentum shifted.
The Royals drained a few three-pointers and lighted a spark that couldn't be stopped. By midway through the fourth quarter, the opponent owned a 69-48 lead. SU drained a few baskets at the end, making it a 75-58 final.
There wasn't a single dominating force for EMU. Myneshia Walker paved the way with 14 points, while Jonae Guest added 12 points and nine boards.
Shenandoah was led by Kanesha Foster with 14 points on the night. Erin French and Olivia Callan each added seven.
SU will return home on Saturday to host Emory & Henry.
