Slow Start Stifles Women's Basketball

WINCHESTER, Va. - The SU Women's Hoops team struggled to find an offensive indentity early in Wednesday night's 67-42 loss to Washington & Lee.

Missed shots and early fouls put the Hornets in a tough position. Hitting nine of their first 13 shots, the Generals held a confident, 21-6, lead at the end of the first quarter. Shenandoah continued to struggle offensively while failing to stop the opponents' high powered offense. Heading into halftime, SU found itself in a 39-14 hole.

But Shenandoah's fight and determination were on full display in the second half. While only scoring 22 total points in the first three quarters, the Hornets' offense found life in the fourth tacking on 20 points. Erin French had five points in the final period while Mary Severin added another six.

But while its effort was obvious, it was too late for Shenandoah.

Washington & Lee was led by Andrea Ferrerro with 11 points, while Emma Redding had 10.

SU wiill look to close out its regular season strong on the road at Randolph on Saturday.
