Men's Hoops Upsets Emory & Henry

EMORY, Va. - The SU men's basketball team entered Saturday's game at Emory & Henry with one goal in mind. The Hornets wanted to end the regular season on a high note and did, capturing an 80-78 win on the road.

"This road win was a great way to finish the regular season and gives us some momentum going into the postseason," head coach Rob Pryor said. "Today was a total team effort."

Shenandoah (6-19, 3-13 ODAC) entered the contest as the underdog with E&H (14-11, 8-8) coming off three-straight wins.

But after trailing, 36-23, with a 3:17 remaining in the first half, the Hornets began chipping away. A few key baskets by Aaron Patterson and Malcolm Clark turned the tide in favor of SU. The Hornets entered halftime down just three.

In second half, Gabriel Gonzalez established his presence under the basket and proved to be a key commodity. The two teams traded baskets throughout the period, and with just 33 seconds remaining, the game was tied, 78-78. But with five seconds on the game clock, Kelsey Thomas nailed a jumper that proved to be the dagger, propelling the Hornets over the Wasps, 80-78.

The ODAC tournament begins on Tuesday. Shenandoah's opponent has yet to be determined.
