Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

LaTona Leads Men's Lacrosse

WINCHESTER, Va.- Stephen LaTona was just one goal shy from tying a school record as the Hornets men's lacrosse team topped Wesley, 15-12, on Saturday afternoon.

SU head coach Tim Marshall was pleased with his squad's effort in the first win of the 2016 campaign.

"We had a good week of practice and preparation," Marshall said. "I think the kids responded the right way from the loss. It was certainly a little up and down game, but they weathered the storm and came back for the win."

LaTona finished the day with eight tallies. The SU school-record is nine.

From the initial faceoff, Shenandoah (1-1), established momentum. By the 13:50 mark, the Hornets held a, 4-1, edge. LaTona tacked on three more while Ryan Schott added his second of the day.

SU entered halftime with a, 8-4, lead.

The third quarter proved to be a solid one for Wesley (0-1). The opponent tacked on five unanswered goals, and by the start of the fourth quarter, trailed just 11-10.
"At the start of the fourth quarter we told those guys to relax," Marshall said. "We were still up. We told them to just get back to the fundamentals and the basics. And if they did the right things, they would come away with a win."

Schott, LaTona and Tilghman Sanders all found the back of the net in the fourth, helping the Hornets earn a, 15-12 win.

Shenadoah was led by LaTona with eight goals and an assist. Schott added six goals and two assists on the day.

Sam Seibert paved the way for Wesley with four goals on the day.

SU will return to action next Saturday when it hosts Hood College.
