WINCHESTER, Va. - There was no stopping the No. 15/16 Shenandoah baseball team in its two opening games of the 2016 campaign. 

SU launched the new season against one of the top opponents in Division III. Case Western Reserve entered Saturday coming off a 2015 season where it won 15 of its last 21 games and made a deep run in the DIII tournament. 

But the Hornets (2-0) wanted to make a statement of their own, and did just that. 

SU swept the Spartans (0-2) in both games of the afternoon, winning 14-0 in the opener and taking the nightcap by a 4-2 score. 

In the first contest, Kevin Anderson's squad was anchored by dominant pitching and productive hitting, which led to the 14-0 shutout. Shenandoah ace Darrell Thompson recorded 10 strikeouts and allowed just two hits over 5.0 innings of work. The SU batters finished the first game with 13 hits. While there were several players that made their presence known, Tristan Baker, Abel Arocho and Neil Dutton were hot at the plate. Baker finished the first nine innings with four hits, Arocho added three and two RBI, and Dutton recorded two hits and five RBI.

Though the second game was closer, SU continued to show its depth in the 4-2 victory. Southpaw Michael Scimanico captured the win with seven strikeouts and no runs allowed. Baker continued the momentum with three hits and an RBI while Arocho added another two hits. 

Shenandoah is set to square off with Case Western Reserve again on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
