Anderson Gets 500th Win

WINCHESTER, Va. - It was a historic day Sunday as Shenandoah University head coach Kevin Anderson captured victory No. 500 as a college skipper with a 7-4 non-league victory over Case Western Reserve.

Shenandoah (3-0) completed the weekend sweep of Case Western Reserve (0-3) thanks to Anderson's historic win.

The longtime mentor is 353-165-1 in 12+ seasons at SU after winning 147 games in four seasons heading up DI James Madison University. In the past seven seasons, Anderson's Hornets have won an average of 33.1 games per season including a school-record 38 in both 2009 and 2010.

For the third game in a row, the Hornets looked to be in control throughout Sunday's contest.

SU's momentum from Saturday was evident right away, with the Hornets reaching home plate four times in the first inning. It began with a single by Joe Coleman, and was followed up by hits from Dan Cameron, Ryan Mossman and Neil Dutton to key the four-run, five-hit frame.

On the mound, Colin Morse (1-0) controlled the tempo. The junior pitched for the first six innings, recording seven strikeouts and allowing just three hits.

Shenandoah added two more runs in the second, and another in the fifth, giving the Hornets a comfortable, 7-0, edge.

The Spartans grinded in the eighth, scoring four runs. But it was too late.

Anderson's crew proved to be too much to handle and Case Western Reserve left Winchester without a win in the three-game series.

The Hornets will look to continue the winning streak when they host Misericordia in a doubleheader next Saturday.
