Men's Hoops Falls In Heartbreaker

The Shenandoah men's basketball team fell in heartbreaking fashion on Wednesday night, losing, 74-73, to Eastern Mennonite in the Hornets' 11th ODAC meeting of the season.

SU (4-16, 1-10 ODAC) was trailing, 73-71, with seven seconds remaining when Malcolm Clark hit the equalizer and evened the contest at 73. But the Royals (6-11, 3-8) drove quickly down the floor and EMU guard Maleke Jones drew a foul that led to the game winning free throw.

The game was evenly matched from the initial tip-off. After trading baskets early, the Royals gained confidence midway through the first period and entered halftime with a commanding, 34-26, lead.

But Rob Pryor's group never seemed fazed. While Eastern Mennonite held a, 47-31, edge with 17:26 left in the game, the Hornets began chipping away.

Led by Malcolm Clark, Shenandoah trailed just, 69-68, with 2:57 remaining. The junior had six points and two rebounds in the final three minutes of the contest.

But after making the critical layup with just seven seconds on the game clock, luck wasn't in favor of the Hornets, leading to their 16th loss of the season.

Clark finished the night with 27 points and 12 rebounds while Thomas Walker added 11 points and E.J. Baltimore tacked on another 10.

EMU relied heavily on Isaiah Harris-Winn who had 23 points and six boards in the contest.

The Hornets will return home on Saturday to battle Guilford at 2 p.m.
