Women Fall to Roanoke

WINCHESTER, Va. - While the final scoreboard favored Roanoke 68-66 Saturday afternoon, the Hornets' effort can't be understated.

SU (6-15, 3-9 ODAC), was never intimidated by the Maroons (10-10, 5-6).

Shenandoah entered the contest in complete control.  SU drained seven three-pointers in the first half and was clicking on all cylinders. The Hornets held the lead for both of the opening quarters and entered halftime up 37-35.

But the Maroons made a few key defensive adjustments in the second half in an attempt to limit the hot shooting of SU. And it worked.

Shenandoah shot just 30.8 percent from beyond the arc in the second half and struggled to find an offensive rhythm.

But while Roanoke clawed back and owned a, 57-65, edge with 3:39 remaining, the Hornets had another run left in them. Late key shots by Kanesha Foster, Olivia Callan and Kirstyn Arcata made it just a, 66-67 deficit for SU with one second on the game clock.

A late foul put Roanoke on the line to go up by the final margin. Time ran out and Shenandoah suffered its 15th loss of the season.

The Hornets were led by Arcata with 19 points and three rebounds. Shannon Kuhn added 13 points while Callan tacked on 10.

SU will look to rebound on Tuesday at Eastern Mennonite
