WINCHESTER, Va.- The Shenandoah University baseball team opened up its ODAC slate Saturday afternoon by dropping both ends of a doubleheader to Roanoke.
No. 9/15 SU (10-3, 0-2 ODAC) saw Roanoke (10-6, 3-1) win game one, 14-3, before completing the sweep with a 6-2 victory in the nightcap.
Nothing went the Hornets' way in game one. Roanoke (10-6, 3-1) picked up 18 hits, while SU had just seven. Abel Arocho was the only Shenandoah player with more than one hit in the first game, with two.
The Hornets put up a fight in the second contest, but again, came out on the losing end. Roanoke had seven hits while SU had five. Arocho remained hot, with three hits and a RBI.
Michael Scimanico (1-1) had a decent outing with 11 strikeouts, but allowed five runs (three earned) on five hits and one walk in 7 2/3 innings of work.
Darrell Thompson (2-1) took the loss in the opener. He gave up six runs on six hits and three walks in 2.0 innings.
Thompson also struck out three.
The Hornets host nationally ranked Mary Washington on Monday.
