LEXINGTON, Va. - Host Washington and Lee University scored 11 of the first 12 goals of the game on its way to an 18-6 ODAC women's lacrosse victory over Shenandoah Wednesday afternoon.
The Generals (3-5, 1-0 ODAC) scored five goals in the opening 7:23 before Jackie Hemler answered unassisted for SU (2-7, 0-1) at 21:27.
W&L answered with another five-goal run to expand its lead to 10-1 with 5:31 remaining in the opening stanza.
Sophomore Abby Zorrilla stopped that streak with the first of her two goals at 3:29 only to see the hosts sandwich a 4-0 run around halftime.
Annie McCorry's unassisted goal at 19:35 of the second marked the start of a game-ending span in which the two teams split the final six goals of the game.
Zorrilla, at 7:40, and Hemler, at 5:04, had the Hornets final two goals.
Washington and Lee had a 35-15 advantage in shots, scooped up 12 of the game's 21 groundballs and won 18 of 26 draws.
Rachel Levy had seven saves in 43:02 of action before giving way to Brittany Bain for the final 16:58.
Bain made one save.
Shenandoah is now off until traveling to Guilford on Saturday, April 2 for a 1 p.m. ODAC contest.
