GREENSBORO, N.C. - Host Guilford College used a four-goal run to complete the first half on its way to a 12-8 ODAC men's lacrosse victory over Shenandoah Saturday afternoon.
After Tilghman Sanders tied the game for SU (4-6, 0-3 ODAC) with his goal off a Jack Greaney assist 61 seconds into the second quarter, Guilford (3-5, 1-2) held the Hornets off the board for the next 26:59.
The Quakers answered Sanders goal with a Dylan Haupt tally off of the ensuing faceoff, and scored three more times in the stanza to take an 8-4 lead into the half.
Shenandoah scored the only two goals of the third, by Ryan Schott at 2:00 and Connor Bishop 53 seconds later, but this would be as close as the Hornets would get.
GC opened the fourth with a three-goal run, extending its lead out to five, 11-6, with 12:16 remaining.
Sanders set up two SU goals, by Bishop at 10:40 and Jeff Goss at 3:07, to bring the Hornets to within three at 11-8 but again Guilford had an answer.
The Quakers won the ensuing faceoff and scored a final goal with just more than two minutes remaining to seal the victory.
Hornets goalkeeper Ben Judy had a 20-save effort to keep it close, but Guilford dominated possession through a 20-4 advantage at the faceoff 'x' and scooping up 39 of the game's 60 groundballs.
SU continues this road trip on Friday night with a 7 p.m. ODAC game at 2015 NCAA runner-up Lynchburg.
