Lynchburg Races Past Men's Lax

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Host Lynchburg College scored the initial eight goals of the game to key a 19-8 ODAC men's lacrosse victory over Shenandoah Friday evening.

Lynchburg (5-5, 2-1 ODAC) held SU (4-7, 0-4) off the board in the opening stanza in jumping out to that 8-0 lead.

Freshman Ryan Schott scored unassisted for Shenandoah 53 seconds into the second to break the scoreless streak, and from then on SU basically played the 2015 NCAA Division III runner-up even.

LC outscored Shenandoah by just three goals over the final 45 minutes of play.

A 3-0 SU run to start the third, on goals from Connor Bishop, Orlando Levins and Stephen LaTona, brought the visitors to within seven, 13-6, with 9:53 remaining in the period.

Lynchburg answered with a four-goal run to complete the quarter, including scoring its final goal as the horn sounded.

The two teams split four goals in the fourth with LaTona scoring both times for Shenandoah.

LC outshot SU 59-27 and won 22 of the game's 30 faceoffs.

Shenandoah goalkeepers Ben Judy, Michael Beutel and Jake Gabriele combined to make 20 saves. Judy had 18 stops in 45:30 of action.

LaTona led the visitors with three goals and one assist with Bishop adding two goals.

Shenandoah is back in action at home on Saturday, April 9 in a 1 p.m. ODAC contest versus Virginia Wesleyan.
