WINCHESTER, Va. - Nine different players tallied Saturday in Shenandoah University's 19-4 non-league men's lacrosse victory over Bethany (W. Va.).
A swarming defense paired with an explosive offensive attack was the recipe for success for Shenandoah (3-2) in front of its home crowd.
Bethany (0-3), matched SU's intensity early, but when the Hornets began clicking, there was no slowing them down.
After Stephen LaTona and Casey Edsall scored early, it quickly became the Jack Greaney show. Greaney had three goals in the first quarter, helping SU secure a 5-2 edge heading into the second.
Michael Brooks, Ryan Schott, LaTona and Edsall all found the back of the net in the second quarter. Shenandoah entered halftime with a comfortable 9-3 lead.
The second half was more of the same for the Hornets. Shenandoah's defense overmatched Bethany in every facet of the game. The Bison were held scoreless the entire third quarter and didn't score again until there was 1:29 remaining.
Orlando Levins had two goals in the fourth quarter, while freshman Eric Sawyer netted his first tally in his collegiate career.
Shenandoah will host Delaware Valley on Wednesday night.
