WINCHESTER, Va. - Despite an impressive 12-save performance from Hornets' goalie Rachel Levy, the SU (0-4) women's lacrosse team fell to McDaniel (2-2), 11-10 on Saturday.
There was never a clear frontrunner in the contest, as the two teams battled back-and-forth for the entire 60 minutes.
Miranda Rudacille set the tempo early, finding the back of the net to give SU a, 1-0, edge less than two minutes into regulation. The two squads traded goals and the score was evened at, 5-5, at the halfway mark.
McDaniel came out firing in the second half, netting three goals to gain an, 8-5, edge. But SU continued to chip away. Rudacille, Sidney VanTuyl and Brittany Arndt found late goals to put the Hornets within one score.
Abby Zorrilla found the equalizer with 6:47 remaining, and the score was tied at, 10-10.
But a late free-position tally by McDaniel's Sam Barbeito proved to be the game winner as the Green Terror snuck past SU, 11-10.
VanTuyl led the Hornets with three goals on the day.
Shenandoah will seek its first win of the season against St. Mary's (Ind.) in Hilton Head, South Carolina on Monday.
