Marlins Spear Men's Lax

WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting Virginia Wesleyan used a strong second quarter on its way to a 15-11 ODAC men's lacrosse win over Shenandoah Saturday afternoon.

VWC (8-3, 2-2 ODAC) led 3-1 after one and scored six goals in the second quarter to take a 9-3 halftime lead over the Hornets (4-8, 0-5).

Shenandoah continued to battle, scoring six of the nine goals in the third quarter, but could not get any closer than three goals.

The Marlins sealed the victory by scoring three of the final five goals of the game, including three of the first four to start the fourth period.

Junior Stephen LaTona paced the Hornets with three goals and two assists for five points while freshman Ryan Schott added four goals. 

Connor Bishop had two goals and one assist and Michael Brooks two assists to round out the multiple point scorers.

VWC outshot Shenandoah 47-34, won 25 of 31 faceoffs and had a 35-26 advantage in groundballs.

Ben Judy had 17 saves for the Hornets in 55:30 of action before Jake Gabriele played the final 4:30. Gabriele had one save and allowed one goal.

Shenandoah continues this homestand with a 7 p.m. ODAC contest Wednesday night versus Roanoke.
