WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's lacrosse team earned its second straight victory Saturday afternoon with a commanding 16-2 ODAC triumph over Virginia Wesleyan.
Shenandoah (4-10, 2-4 ODAC) led throughout in posting its second blowout victory of the week. The Hornets entered Saturday's game coming off of a 19-3 win at Randolph Wednesday evening.
Sophomore Abby Zorrilla set up junior Brittany Arndt for the first two goals of the game before scoring an unassisted tally herself at 22:28 to give SU a 3-0 lead over the Marlins (2-11, 1-5).
After VWC scored its first goal at 20:40, the Hornets reeled off a seven-goal run to take a 10-1 lead in the waning moments of the first.
Zorrilla and Annie McCorry both had hat tricks during this run, McCorry's a natural one, with senior Miranda Rudacille scoring the remaining goal.
The Marlins scored what would prove to be their final goal on a free position shot six seconds before the halftime horn.
Shenandoah scored all six of the goals in the second half with Rudacille scoring three times and McCorry, Arndt and Zorrilla one time each.
SU outshot its visitors 35-11 and had a 30-8 advantage in groundballs. The Hornets also won 12 of the game's 20 draws.
Shenandoah goalkeepers Brittany Bain and Rachel Levy combined for eight saves.
Shenandoah is off until hosting Hollins next Saturday in 2 p.m. ODAC contest. The game is also Senior Day and Rudacille along with Evie Gaffney will be honored prior to the contest.
