LYNCHBURG, Va. – Fourth-seeded Hampden-Sydney registered the biggest upset of the 2016 ODAC Baseball Tournament with a 4-3 victory over top-seeded Shenandoah Friday afternoon.

No. 9/11 Shenandoah (31-9) had jumped out to a 3-0 lead over the Tigers (27-14) with one run in the first and two more in the fourth, but gave up four runs on three hits, three walks and a hit batsman in the fifth.

H-SC did all of the damage against SU starter Colin Morse, who lost for the first time in 11 career decisions. Morse (5-1) allowed the four runs on six hits and four walks in 4 2/3 innings pitched.

The game-winning run was unearned as Lee Carneal scored from third via passed ball.

After giving up the lead, the Hornets put two runners on in the fifth, but then were held to just one hit the rest of the contest. In the eighth, Abel Arocho singled up the middle off of H-SC reliever Dylan Gonzales, but then was eliminated on a 643 double play.

In the ninth, Lew Johnson drew a one-out walk, but the Tigers again turned a double play to kill the threat.

Jake Loew paced the Shenandoah offense with two hits and an RBI in four at-bats while Johnson drove in a pair of runs on a triple to left center in the fourth.

Johnson was cut down at home one pitch later on a failed suicide squeeze.

Teddy West (9-3) was the winner for the Tigers. He gave up the three runs (two earned) on six hits and one walk in six innings pitched.

SU is now sent to the loser's bracket where the Hornets will take on the loser of the Randolph-Macon/Washington and Lee game on Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
