SALEM, Va. - Host Roanoke College held Shenandoah University to one second half goal on its way to a 16-5 ODAC women's lacrosse victory Saturday afternoon.
Leading 6-4 at the halftime break, Roanoke (5-7, 3-2 ODAC) held Shenandoah (2-10, 0-4) to an Annie McCorry tally midway through the second half on its way to its first-ever victory over SU.
McCorry scored that goal at 17:20 to snap a 5-0 scoring run by the Maroons to start the second.
RC answered that McCorry tally with another 5-0 run to complete the contest.
The second half was in stark contrast to a first half in which the two teams were not separated by more than three goals.
With Shenandoah on top 3-2 following an Abby Zorrilla tally at 21:43 of the first, Roanoke took a lead it would not relinquish with four straight goals from the 18:53 to 7:40 marks.
Roanoke outshot SU 29-21 and had advantages of 12-8 in draw controls and 24-18 in groundballs.
Hornets goalkeeper Brittany Bain had seven saves.
Shenandoah continues this road trip on Wednesday with a 6 p.m. ODAC contest at Randolph.
