Women's Soccer Posts Shutout

NEWARK, N.J. - The Shenandoah University women's soccer team earned a split of its participation in the Rutgers-Newark Tournament by shutting out the tournament host 4-0 Sunday afternoon.

The Hornets (4-1) received goals from three different women in posting their fourth shutout victory in five games this season.

Shenandoah has outscored its opponents 11-2 this year.

Senior Anna Wilson got what proved to be the game-winner in the 15th minute when she took Dornesha Cottom's pass at the top of the box and ripped her shot past Rutgers-Newark goalkeeper Heidi Paulson.

Freshman Emily Yergin tallied the first of her two goals in the 37th minute before Jordan Riser closed out the half by slipping in a goal at 40:37.

Jessica Stuart set up Yergin for the final goal of the day by with a through pass that led to a breakway.

Stuart also had the assist on Riser's goal.

SU outshot the Scarlet Knights (1-4) 15-7 with the two teams splitting 10 corner kicks.

Senior Erin Septer registered career shutout No. 20 by stopping three shots.

"Another great result today," Hornets head coach Liz Pike said. "We are showing improvement each time out."

The women continue this road trip on Wednesday with a 7 p.m. non-league contest at Frostburg State.
