Frostburg Rallies Past Women's Soccer

FROSTBURG, Md. – Host Frostburg State University rallied for a 3-1 non-league women's soccer victory over Shenandoah Wednesday evening.

Shenandoah (4-2), which entered the South Atlantic Region rankings at No. 8 earlier in the day, took the early lead on an Alison Spaziani-to-Emily Yergin goal in the 19th minute.

Unfortunately for the Hornets, Frostburg (3-3) had an answer.

The Bobcats knotted the game at 1-1 thanks to an own goal five minutes before halftime, and took control in the second.

FSU scored twice following intermission, in the 59th and 70th minutes, to earn its fourth straight win over SU.

Shenandoah had its opportunities in the second half, including forcing a defensive save in the 56th minute and hitting the post on a direct kick in the 77th, but could not climb back into the contest.

Frostburg outshot the Hornets 15-8 and had a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Senior goalkeeper Erin Septer had five saves.

"Unfortunately, not everyone showed up to play tonight," SU coach Liz Pike said. "We had a couple of breaks go against us that greatly influenced the outcome.

"Jen (Nguyen) and Emily (Yergin) had strong performances this evening."

Shenandoah continues this road trip with a 4 p.m. game Saturday afternoon at Susquehanna.
