BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's volleyball team fell in straight sets Friday night at ODAC rival Bridgewater College.
The Eagles (8-2, 2-0 ODAC) claimed the sweep of SU (5-6, 0-1) with wins at 18, 16, and 15.
The Hornets came out of the gates strong and took a 4-1 lead in the first set before BC bounced back by winning six of the next seven points. The teams traded points to knot things up at 8-8 before Bridgewater scored four straight to take a lead it would not relinquish.
A 10-2 run at the end of the second put BC within one set of victory. The two teams battled back-and-forth until that run, with SU trailing just 15-14 prior to the Eagles seizing control.
Set number three was very similar to the second. Shenandoah trailed 12-11 before BC went on a 13-4 to clinch the match.
Junior Elizabeth Lamont led the Hornets offensive attack with eight kills. Her classmate, Kaitlyn Kelley, added seven.
Senior Jasmine Callahan assisted on 15 of the Hornets 28 kills.
Lamont led the defense with 10 digs.
Coach Jaime Terenzi's club is back in action tomorrow with a tri-match at Eastern Mennonite. SU faces off against the host Royals at 11:00 and Lancaster Bible at 1:00.
