Hockey Soars Past 'Hawks

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - The Shenandoah University field hockey team earned its third win of the season Wednesday afternoon with a 3-0 shutout at St. Mary's of Maryland.

After a scoreless first half, SU (3-4) tallied three times in the final 35 minutes to earn its fourth lifetime victory over SMCM (1-6) in six meetings.

Freshman Megan Stevens had two of the Hornets three goals. She sandwiched a Kayla Alderman goal in the 50th minute with tallies in the 42nd and 59th minutes.

Elizabeth Pardo assisted on the initial goal with Morgan Payne setting up Alderman's tally.

Goalkeeper Jessica Brown earned the shutout victory with nine saves.

The Seahawks outshot Shenandoah 20-6 and had a 9-4 advantage in penalty corners.

The Hornets open ODAC play on Saturday at Washington and Lee in a 1 p.m. contest.
