Women's Soccer Dominates Royals

WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's soccer team posted its eighth shutout of the season in a 5-0 ODAC victory over Eastern Mennonite Wednesday evening.

Freshman Emily Yergin, the current ODAC Player of the Week and the league's leading scorer, scored the first two goals for the Hornets (8-2, 2-0 ODAC).

Yergin tallied for the 10th time this season in the 11th minute before finishing off a Dornesha Cottoms feed in the 20th.

The two goals were more than enough for SU to earn its sixth straight win over Eastern Mennonite (4-4-1, 1-1).

Shenandoah held the Royals to just two shots on the day and Hornets keeper Erin Septer had to make just one save in posting her 24th career shutout.

Dornesha Cottoms, Alison Spaziani and Mackenzie Forsythe had the Hornets second half goals with Sara Fuller and Jenna Santoro assisting on Spaziani's and Forsythe's tallies, respectively.

The Hornets ended up with a 22-2 advantage in shots and took all nine of the game's corners.

"Tonight was a good ODAC win for our team," SU head coach Liz Pike said. "It was also nice to see some of the other players get in on the scoring.

"I thought we had another solid defensive performance anchored by Michelle Krause."

Shenandoah takes to the road on Saturday for a 5 p.m. ODAC contest at Guilford College. An SU win would be No. 100 for Pike as the Hornets head coach.
