By Cory Nelson '12

WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's volleyball team earned its second home win of the season Thursday night with a thrilling, 3-2, non-league victory over the Catholic University of America.

CUA (13-5) won the first two sets of the match, winning 25-16 and 25-20, to put itself just one set from clinching.

Shenandoah (8-9) had other ideas.

SU squeaked out a pair of two-point wins, winning 25-23 in the third and 26-24 in the fourth, to force a decisive fifth set.

The Hornets then claimed the victory with a 15-10 triumph in that final set.

Junior Elizabeth Lamont led the hosts to the victory with 19 kills with sophomore Caylin Harris adding 12.

Seniors Rachel Cerretani and Jasmine Callahan coordinated Shenandoah's offense by dishing out 26 assists each.

Cerretani also had four service aces.

Sophomore Regine Bumper was a dominant force on defense as the libero. She posted a match-high 35 digs.

Coach Jaime Terenzi takes her squad on the road this Saturday to Cresson, Pennsylvania for a non-league tri-match at Mount Aloysius. The Hornets will take on the host Mounties at 1 before finishing the day with a 3 p.m. match against Pitt-Greensburg.
